Food Corporation of India was established Food Corporation's Act 1964. Some of the objectives of FCI is to make food grains available at reasonable prices and to intervene in market for price stabilization and to ensure food security. It is one of the largest Public Sector Undertakings. FCI Depots and Offices are spread all over India.

In 2022, FCI Advertised for 5043 AG, JE etc. through advt no. 01/2022. The zone-wise vacancies are as follows.
- North Zone: 2388 Posts
- South Zone: 989 Posts
- East Zone: 768 Posts
- West Zone: 713 Posts
- North-East (NE) Zone: 185 Posts.
Responsibilities of FCI Zones:
- Procurement: Buying food grains (mainly wheat and paddy) directly from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
- Storage: Managing godowns network and silos to maintain the "Buffer Stock."
- Preservation: Ensuring quality of stored grain using scientific pest control.
- Distribution: Moving grains from "surplus" states (like Punjab) to "deficit" states of India to supply for Public Distribution System (PDS).
